Flying above the sea: ARROW accelerates Europe’s maritime defence innovation

One year into the project, the ARROW (Autonomous Rapid Recognition Operation Warship) consortium gathered in Trondheim on 1 and 2 of July for its second General Assembly, hosted by Maritime Robotics.

ARROW is an ambitious project co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by SEAir Solutions. Developing a 12-metre modular uncrewed surface vessel, the programme aims to turn operational requirements into concrete design and engineering choices, strengthening the EU capabilities in the domain of security of maritime routes, straits and shallow waters, as well as support for naval forces and special operations. Designed to operate reliably in extreme sea conditions, ARROW is a groundbreaking project built to fly-above-the-sea, increasing sailing stability and autonomy to meet demanding maritime environments.

Currently in its design phase, the project is expected to move to prototype construction by the end of 2026, paving the way for its deployment within the EU armed forces once completed.

SEAir Solutions, together with the consortium partners Maritime Robotics, C&V Defence, D3 Applied Technologies, Knierim Yachtbau GmbH, and Riga Technical University therefore came together to share progress updates from their respective works, confirm project status, and validate milestones. Firm priorities were also set for the next phase. These exchanges are critical to the design of the vessel: they ensure every technical choice remains aligned with the project’s ethical framework and operational goals, keeping the consortium on track as ARROW moves toward its next milestones.
